Island Girl Island Volcano and Hawaiian Surf

Hey there!

While in Las Vegas this past week, I came across a super cute nail polish line called Island Girl. When I finally had Internet access again, I did a little research and found out that Vegas is one of the only places you can buy these in stores! I'm really happy I grabbed a few of these =] I chose Island Volcano (a sky blue glitter with itty bitty sparkles and large, randomly-shaped shimmery chunks) and Hawaiian Surf (a pastel blue-green creme). I thought they would look really pretty layered, so that's exactly what I did =]! Check it out =]!

The bottles look like China Glaze =P

I used a little rock again to keep the bottles from rolling =P

Ya, I know this mani is a little messy...sorry about that =P I didn't have a ton of time to clean it up because the sun was going down and I was losing precious picture-taking daylight =P

Those large glitters look kind of like glass pieces to me =] Prettttttty =]

Whole Mani!

Final Verdict- LOVE these two polishes! They both had a pretty decent application and looked faaaabulous when layered together =] I don't have any polishes like these two (with the exception of OPI Last Friday Night, my only other blue glitter), so I was super happy to add them to my ever-growing collection =] My only regret was that I didn't buy more, there were a bunch of gorgeous colors! If I had known I could only get them in a couple places, I definitely would have bought more! Oh well....I guess I better get back to Vegas then =P Dang it =P

Dr.'s Remedy Hot Hot Hot Summer Collection Review!

Howdy, Y'all =]!

I'm back from Vegas and I had a BLAST! I might post some pictures on here so if your interested you can check them out =] Anywho....back to nail polish! Today, I have a fabulous product review of the Hot Hot Hot Summer Collection from Dr.'s Remedy! This polish company is great because they REALLY care about what chemicals and other things go into their polish. In fact, they add beneficial ingredients like garlic bulb extract, vitamins C and E, tea tree oil, and wheat protein to actually improve your nails. To make things even better, they have some really pretty colors! Beautiful AND good for you? Sounds great to me! Here are the pictures...get ready for this one, ladies and gents, LOTS of photos ahead! I didn't use a top coat for these just for the sake of showing the true color...and an easier removal for me, haha =]

The whole gang! L-R: GLEE Gold, TRANQUIL Tangerine, NURTURE Nude Pink, LOVELY Lavender, and BOLD Baby Blue

First up- GLEE Gold! This is my very first gold polish ever, and I was quite impressed! I didn't think I'd like the color on my skin tone, but I kind of like how different it was for me. Since this polish is a little sheer I decided to use 3 coats, but the application was really smooth, so I didn't mind doing several coats. It still wasn't completely opaque, but semi-sheer polishes don't bother me too much.

Next up is TRANQUIL Tangerine. This one is another first in my collection...I've kind of had this fear of oranges for fear of making my skin look orange and fake-tanned. Just like GLEE Gold, this was also another pleasant surprise! This vibrant orange applied nicely and had a super pretty foil finish that was opaque in 2 coats...although I probably could have gotten away with 1 if I applied it just a bit thicker than normal. I'm not sure if this will be a regular mani color for me, but I'm pretty excited to use it for pedi's and nail art! It totally reminds me of orange juice, yum =]!

Thirdly, we have NURTURE Nude Pink. Just like any light/nude pink, the polish was a bit on the streaky and sheer side. That being said, I'm sure a white base coat could have helped with that. The streakiness wasn't too bad after the 3 coats I used for this swatch. It has just a hint of rosy shimmer to it, but I think I'd still classify it as a creme. This is a very classy, work-appropriate pink!

You should all know by now my immense love for purple polish, so it's no surprise that LOVELY Lavender is my favorite of this collection. This is 1 coat. Uno. Un. Ichi. Eins. ONE coat! Can you believe it? This was so incredibly opaque I wanted to SING! It applied super easily, too. This is honestly my new favorite purple creme polish =]! I loved the slight smokey-ness in this color...even though it's part of a summer collection, I'll definitely be wearing this for fall!

Last, but certainly not least, is BOLD Baby Blue. This pretty light blue foil is such a fun, shimmery color! I used 2 coats for this swatch and I think it applied pretty well. It was slightly sheer, so I would recommend a couple coats for this one. I really liked the silver shimmers in this polish, it's kind of frosty looking! Quite a coooool color for a HOT polish collection! Haha...sorry...I just had to do that...please forgive me =P

Final Verdict- This is a fabulous collection! Each and every one of these polishes applied well and the range of colors was great, from work appropriate to vacation appropriate =]! Like I said, my favorite is LOVELY Lavender by far, but BOLD Baby Blue was a close second. If I had to choose a least favorite from this collection, I'd probably go with GLEE Gold, but I didn't dislike any of these colors...GLEE Gold is just my least favorite....haha, if that makes sense. If any of you are interested in giving this GREAT brand a try, you can purchase from them online at http://www.remedynails.com/! Also, don't be afraid to like them on Facebook, click here!

Have an amazing day =]!

Day Look- Too Face NEW Smokey Eye Palette

Hey everyone!

My last post was about the new Smokey Eye Palette by Too Faced and I wanted to attempt one of the looks from a how-to card included with it. I chose the day look for my first attempt EVER with this palette. Please understand that I'm not a professional and I'm still learning about makeup all the time...so it is by no means perfect =P. But I tried my best and I think it turned out pretty well =] I did this look over Too Faced First Base and used Firefly, Cloves, and Up in Smoke. Also, I used Too Faced Lash Injection Pinpoint Mascara and my new brow pencil from YBF Beauty that I received in my Birchbox =] Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out (think Beastie Boys =P)...

Please excuse me as I peer directly into your soul. =P

Smoooooookey, right =P?

I really like how this turned out! Like I said, it isn't perfect, but it's not too bad! What do you guys think? Should I do the Classic and the Fashion look from this palette, also?

Too Faced NEW Smokey Eye Palette!

Hi Lovelies!

I am a seriously huge fan of Too Faced Cosmetics, and when I learned that they came out with a brand new smokey eye palette for Fall, I was THRILLED! I've had my eye on this palette for a while now, and I was so happy when I was able to track it down at my local Ulta the other day! I just HAD to swatch this baby for you all, the colors are absolutely beautiful =] Here are the piccys =]

Picture of the packaging, super cute, right =]?

Just look at these pretty colors! I love them =]!

Swatches over Too Faced First Base from left to right:
Firefly, Cloves, Up in Smoke, White Lie, Nice Ash, Smokin Hot, In a Flash, Smoking Jacket, Smolder

I wiped a single time with one finger through the colors to see how easily blended they are...I'd say they blend really well! These shadows had been on my arm at least five minutes (probably longer) before I did this, so it's not like they were super freshly applied and not completely set yet.

Final Verdict- One word- LOVE. These colors are gorgeous, super pigmented, and easily blended which is GREAT for smokey eyes! Also, this palette comes with three cards to show you how to create either a day, classic, or fashion look. One of the most popular eye palettes is Too Faced's Natural Eye Palette, and think this one might be yet another one of those must-haves! It costs $36 and you can find it at Ulta, Sephora, or online at www.toofaced.com!

July Birchbox!

It's that time again, readers!

Yes, its BIRCHBOX time! Hooraaaaay =D! I love when my Birchbox comes, its like a little box of happiness =]! Seriously, whenever I receive it I instantly get in such a good mood =]! However...I am slightly saddened by this month's box only because I was one of the few who didn't get a mini Zoya. Kind of a bummer when you LOVE nail polish, you know? That's ok, because I've stated from the start that although this blog will focus mainly on nail polish/art, I really love makeup and other beauty products too! In fact...I have some cool makeup posts coming up this week, stay tuned =]! Anywho, back to Birchbox. If your interested about how this service works, click here, I explained it in my first post about Birchbox =] Ok, here's what I got!

As many of you know, this month's box was a collaboration with designer Cynthia Rowley. She chose some of her beauty must-haves and they were included in the July box =] They also changed the look of the box  with this cardboard sleeve and blue (instead of pink) tissue paper inside.

The explanation for the July box. There's that blue tissue paper, I like it! Very pretty color =]!

The first item I found in my box was Korres Showergel. I'd say this definitely counts as a deluxe sample because it's almost 14  fl oz.! I have to admit, when I first smelled this product, I was WAAAY overwhelmed with the smell of fig and soap...but after I've used it once or twice in the shower, I think I like it! The smell is still really concentrated in the bottle, but it doesn't linger on your skin too heavily. It lathers up really well and was quite gentle on my sensitive skin. This is good stuff in my book!

The next thing I received was an 8 oz. Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser. I haven't tried this little guy yet, but I'm pretty excited about it! It smells super pretty and I know Philosophy products are pretty awesome =]!

Next, I got this Redken Shine Flash 02 Spray. It basically does what it says, makes your hair shiny and pretty =]! I haven't used this one myself yet, but I've seen quite a few bloggers that like this one in moderation (too much might make hair greasy-looking). I don't have any products that do this, so I was pretty happy about receiving it!

In place of a mini Zoya, I received a YBF Beauty Automatic Eye Brown Pencil in universal taupe.

Here is a swatch of it so you could see the color =]

The cool thing with this brow pencil was it's two ends. One end has this little brush to smooth your brows...

This side had the pencil! This is retractable by the way, so you can twist it in an out as your please. My only complaint with the two ends is the although the caps the cover both ends look similar...they are NOT. I made the mistake of switching the lids on the ends and completely smooshed the pencil end =[ The good news is since it's a brow pencil, it doesn't have to be at a point to work well, but if the lids were different colors the problem could be avoided all together!
*UPDATE* Yeah, I made a mistake...the caps are actually the same, I just left the pencil side twisted out too far, hence the smooshing...my bad =P

I wanted to show you guys how well it works, so here is a before picture, no makeup.

Here's after! Still no eye makeup, I just used the brow pencil and brush. I like it! This product is really easy to use and obviously it makes quite a difference =]!

Last but not least was this little bonus, a Kind Almond & Apricot bar! Unfortunately...as random as it sounds, I may have an allergy to apricots so I'm not able to enjoy this treat, but I was happy to share it with my friend =]

Group shot!

There you have it! The July box wasn't my absolute favorite so far, but I was still pretty happy about it! I think I'm just jealous of everyone who got a Zoya =P Can you blame me, though =P? Didn't think so =P

China Glaze Let's Do It In 3D and Visit Me In Prism

Hey hey heyyyyy!

Today I was feeling holo-y again so I decided to do a mani with some new ones I got a little while ago- China Glaze Let's Do It In 3D and China Glaze Visit Me In Prism. Nothing fancy, just a normal mani with an accent nail =] I think the holos tend to speak for themselves, you know? They don't need a lot of help to be special =] I used three coats of each polish and used OPI Top Coat. Normally I would take pics BEFORE a top coat with a holo, but I did these during a storm that stole all the sunlight for pics, so I had to wait to take pictures in the morning...wanted to make sure that it would hold up!  Look at the rainbow goodness!

I took these pictures in the morning before work, so the lighting was pretty harsh....but I think they turned out ok =]

Whole Mani!

Final Verdict: These two made a great combo in my book =] I normally throw a splash of bright color in my nails somehow (as I'm sure you all know by now =P), but I like the look of these two together =] LDII3D could be described as a charcoal, smokey color with a pretty intense holo in it. I can see the rainbows right now as I type...I'm inside, not by a window, and I'm near the most artificial light on the planet. VMIP is a pretty sheer, silvery holo that some bloggers say has a touch of light purple in it. The holo isn't as intense as in LDII3D, but its absolutely visible. I'm really happy I could add these two to my ever-growing collection of holos =]!

Hey, go vote in my poll in the top left sidebar! I need to know what polish to wear on my trip to Las Vegas! =] *Poll Closed!*
