Man oh man, have I been excited to show you these polishes today! Layla (pronounced Lye-lah if you didn't know...I didn't until recently =P), an Italian brand, has recently begun retailing in the U.S. and has seriously upped the ante in the polish world! You've seen their holographics (Hologram Effect), their magnetics (Magneffect), and recently their chromes (Mirror Effect), but I bet you didn't see this coming...they've just introduced their innovative and beautiful Softouch polishes! Now, before you say "oh, matte polish, I've seen that before, nothing new", you must know that these are NOT matte polishes! While it's true that they give a matte-like "not shiny" effect, they truly are different, and I'll tell you why.
1. Matte polishes are chalky, these aren't at all! They feel slightly textured but overall very smooth. They feel like very soft porcelain...luxurious.
2. Matte polishes all seem to be made with the same powdery stuff (which is why all matte polishes have a very similar chalky texture), while the Softouches are actually formulated with wax, thus changing their formula entirely!
3. I haven't done a wear test myself, but Softouches are supposed to have more longevity than matte polish. Call me crazy...but I scratched like a cat woman at my swatches when they were thoroughly dry and absolutely NOTHING flaked up! If that had been matte polish, I would have clawed right through the polish =P!
You should know that I didn't use base or top coat because it is recommended that they are worn alone. In fact, when I tried to wear one of these last week with a base coat, I noticed that the polish had a significantly longer dry time. Now, on to my swatches!
These bottles are too cute! They're bigger than they look in this picture (10 mL each).
Aqua Zen
2 coats
I died when I saw this amazing turquoise beauty! DIED I tell you! It's so vibrant and almost electric, yet soft because of the smooth, "not shiny" finish. It only took 2 coats for perfect opacity and it dried VERY quickly, which is a major plus in my book. Blue lovers...you need this, no if's and's or but's!
Turquoise Splash
2 coats
I love this soft ocean-like blue with gold/green shimmer, I wish real water looked as pretty as this! Normally a polish as shimmery as this would be SO bright and intense (think OPI Catch Me In Your Net or Zoya Charla), and while that isn't a bad thing, this one is a whole lot easier on the eyes! It's bold because of the color yet very elegant because of the finish...best of both worlds if you ask me =]! Just 2 coats made it perfectly opaque. It took a little longer to dry than Aqua Zen but I didn't have to wait any longer than I would for a normal polish.
You guys know I looooove me some nail art! Take a peek at this wavy look I created with a fan brush using both of these fabulous polishes =]!
I'm DEFINITELY going to order some more of these. Here is a picture I took from Cosmoprof with swatches of all the soon-to-be available colors! That purple and hot pink shall soon be mine O_O
Have an amazing day =]!
♥,
Lindsey
