Summer Fun Challenge - We Like it Hot, Hot, Hot!

Hi friends!

Another late post, my bad. You guys know how it is when your schedule is thrown off...it throws EVERYTHING off. I'm playing a major game of catch-up just to hang in there during this messy week! It's all good though, I'm still keeping my head above water =] Today, I'm continuing with my Summer Fun Challenge...

Wow, this also marks the halfway point of the challenge. This thing has gone by fast, maybe I should make it longer next time =P! Today's theme is "We Like it Hot, Hot, Hot" and I won't lie, I had trouble deciding what to do with this one. I know I could have gone the flame/fire route and made a pretty cool mani (like some awesome participants did, see below!), but I wanted to try something more personal. Miss Sarah of Chalkboard Nails, who also lives in an oven Arizona, suggested I try a mani that represented the horrendous temperatures of our home state. While brainstorming, I just couldn't shake the way over-used saying we have around here..."Its a dry heat." People say this to try to somehow justify the killer heat since it isn't sticky and humid, but it doesn't exactly work in my opinion...hot is still hot, whether it's wet or dry! So, since this phrase represents the extreme-yet-somehow-tolerable-because-they're-dry temperatures of Arizona, I thought I'd transfer it directly into my mani! I used Zoya Cho, Essie Armed & Ready, Dr.'s Remedy GLEE Gold, SinfulColors Snow Me White, Zoya Carey, Stripe Rite Black and OPI Color So Hot It Berns (how appropriate!). Take a looksie!

Yes, I know I messed up...pretend that "its" is an "it's" =]

I rolled balls of saran wrap and stamped them on my nails to create a sandy/dirty background and freehanded the animal skull on my pinky. I'll admit, this look isn't so wearable as it is comical...but hey, it fits today's theme perfectly =P!

Have an awesome day!

♥,
Lindsey

Colors For Hope Swatches - No Jo and Pray 4 Tay!

Hello!

I recently came across a new polish line called Colors For Hope and I instantly fell in love with the polishes and mission behind them. I was actually on a no-buy at the time that I found them, but I broke down and bought a couple because I LOVE what they're all about! Clinton's Club, the organization that began Colors For Hope, was founded after Clinton Milliken was diagnosed and later passed away from Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. However, as their website states, "while Clinton may have lost his battle with Medulloblastoma, his fight is not over." Colors For Hope donates 100% of the proceeds to children (and their families) fighting cancer. They name each polish for a child who is/has battled cancer and they also share small bio's about each child on their Facebook page. Today, I have swatches of No Jo and Pray 4 Tay. Take a look!

No Jo
3 coats
This medium blue creme is so gorgeous! In person its slightly darker, but this picture is fairly close to how it appears on the nail. It had decent opacity and went on like butter!

Now...take a look at the little one who inspired this shade!

Photo and information taken from the Colors For Hope Facebook page
"This was the amazing Noah. Noah was a spunky 5 year old who this world lost in 2011. Noah has DIPG and was from Wilkesboro, NC. Noah and Clinton were St. Jude Warrior buddies of the best kind. We just know they are off feeshin somewhere now. Noah's color for Hope is the best shade of light blue, and called "No Jo"

Pray 4 Tay
4 coats
AHHH! Lime green jelly, heck yes! I'm absolutely loving this one...yes, it's sheer, but over another green or white it would be AWESOME. I can't wait to try some fun jelly sandwiches with this one!

Meet Tay, the beautiful inspiration for this beautiful polish =]!

Photo and information taken from the Colors For Hope Facebook page

"Taylor is 17 years old and is currently a patient of Vanderbilt."

I hope you've fallen in love with these colors and this awesome organization, too! You can get these for $6 each plus shipping (Just a heads up...you may have to email them regarding the shipping. They've had a few bugs with Paypal over-charging people for shipping costs, but they are offering refunds. Shipping did take a little while for me, but I received my polishes within about 2-3 weeks of ordering.). Check out their site here to see more polishes and purchase information. Also, become a fan of their Facebook page here!

Have an awesome day!

Summer Fun Challenge - Pool Party!

Hi there!

It's day 3 of the Summer Fun Challenge!

I know, I know...I'm late! I totally should have posted this earlier, but to be completely honest, I finished these nails less than an hour ago. I'm WAY behind today, but I hope you agree that its better late than never =P! Today's theme was Pool Party and I tried to think a tad outside of the box with this one. I started to think about the important things you need for a pool party, and its no surprise that safety came to mind first =P! I'm totally kidding...the truth is that I tried 3 different mani ideas last night and they all failed, so I went with a simple but cute Lifeguard inspired design. I used OPI Color So Hot It Berns with Wet N Wild Black Creme and SinfulColors Snow Me White. Check it out!

I intended my thumb to look like those long, foam floaties Lifeguards carry around and my ring finger to resemble the classic cross emblem that they often wear. I know my mani isn't super intricate, but after 3 nail fails I was just happy to finish something halfway decent =P

Have a great day, hopefully I won't post so late tomorrow =P!

Lindsey

My Disneyland Nails - Minnie Mouse Inspired!

Hey there!

I'm back from my weekend in Disneyland, Brandon and I had a BLAST! To be honest, I've been sort of bummed today now that I'm home...I call it my post-Disneyland depression  =P However, I haven't done my nails since last Wednesday so I've been eager to get back to it =]! Today, I have my cute Disneyland mani to show you. I decided to go classic with a Minnie Mouse theme after seeing this post from Polish Art Addiction and this post from The Nail Network. I literally smooshed these two manis together to create my Disneyland nails and I was absolutely ecstatic about the outcome! You'll notice I added some holo hidden Mickey's randomly in the polka dots...well, a shout-out goes to reader Stacey who gave me that awesome idea =]! I used OPI If You Moust You Moust, OPI Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It, Wet N Wild Black Creme, GOSH Holographic, and SinfulColors Snow Me White for these nails. Take a look!

The only issue with this mani was due to my top coat...my bottle was almost finished and it decided to leave traces of past manis all over this one -_-. Thankfully, I made a stop at my favorite nail supply store in SoCal and grabbed several more bottles! Anyway, I hope you liked these Disney nails as much as I did =]!

Have an awesome day!

Laser Strands Striped Mani!

Helloooo!

Have you heard of Dollar Nail Art? I placed an order with them a while ago and received a whole bunch of goodies. Today I get to show you another awesome thing I got...Rainbow Laser Strands! These cool-looking strands are basically twisted, non-sticky pieces of striping tape in all different colors. I love how they look with this mani...if you had been able to see it in person, you'd love it even more! The light bounces off the angles of the strands and looks SO amazing. My nails are sporting a base of OPI If You Moust You Moust (you better believe I own the entire Minnie Mouse collection =P!) topped with Girly Bits January Morning and the laser strands. A shout-out goes to Kelly of Oh La La Polish! for hooking me up with the Minnie Mouse collection and Abby for graciously sending me January Morning, thanks so much! Love you girls =]! Now, on to the pictures!

Amazing, right? Seriously, do yourself a favor and check out Dollar Nail Art, I am SO happy with all of the products I bought!

Have a great weekend =]

It's So Easy Glitter Review!

Hey there!

This is the last installment of my It's So Easy Nails review. This time, I'll be showing you 6 of their gorgeous loose glitters! They come packed in little plastic 2 gram pots with a screw-on lid for convenience. I thought the best way to test the look of these was to make one mani using all of them. It's a little bit like sparkly chaos all together, so I also took macro shots of each nail; I wanted you to see the glitter as clear as possible. Just like the Stripe Rite polishes, these glitter pots don't have names on them...I had to pair them up with the item number on the website (sort of annoying, but no biggie). Here we go!

Whole mani. See...sparkly chaos! I wasn't kidding =P!

Silver and Gold Holographic Cracked Ice Glitter
This was the only nail that I used more than one glitter on. I thought these would go nicely together since they are the same chunky texture and finish...I was right! This looks like a metallic, holo-y mosaic! These glitter particles were so unique and cool, but I do have to mention that they really didn't like to come out individually. Most of the time I'd end up with 5 small pieces when I was aiming for 1 larger one. It's ok though because I have patience when it comes to glitter...I always expect it to take a while when I use it =P

White Glitter Powder
These iridescent white glitter particles were so pretty! I just love that slight color shift in direct light. This glitter was a little harder to work with since the pieces are so small, but the result was worth it. I bet this would look incredible over blue in the winter time, I'm thinking snowy nails =]!

Gold Holographic Glitter Powder
Favorite alert! For some reason, I found this glitter easiest to work with and I absolutely love the look of it! The holo isn't super strong, but I imagine you'd see it better in direct sunlight. I'll probably be recreating this look soon using a brighter color base...turquoise or hot pink would be so awesome!

Fuchsia Green Cracked Ice Glitter
I'd say this is more of a fuchsia-blue glitter, but still, it's quite pretty and unique! You can see that it looks different depending on your base color. I prefer it over the black because it seems to show its true colors better (in the pot, it looks like a vibrant hot pink. Over white you can see it turn to a rusty-pink color...blah!). It was sort of hard to work with because of all the random shapes and sizes of glitter pieces, but the effect is awesome so the hard work just may be worth it!

Mother of Pearl Cracked Ice Glitter
I MUCH prefer this one to the last! It is the same type of glitter (therefore, still a little hard to work with), but I like that it's clear like glass shards! You can see that these particle shift from pinky-purple to greenish-blue. This is another I'd like to try again in the winter time, it'll look so icy and AWESOME!

To find these It's So Easy glitters near you, check out this "Where to Buy" page. I believe you'll be able to find them at your local Sally's, but you might want to check on the site just to be sure =]

Whelp, that's all she wrote...literally! Have an awesome day =]!

Summer Fun Challenge - Summer Lovin'!

Howdy!

It's time for the second themed mani of my Summer Fun Challenge!

Today's theme is Summer Lovin'...fight the urge to sing the Grease song =P! You'll be seeing lots of hearts and lovey-dovey interpretations of this challenge by me and all the other participants, so get ready to feel the loooove! For my mani, I tried something I did a while back on my Powerpuff Girl nails, a heart tunnel of sorts! I used China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, China Glaze I'm With The Lifeguard, Zoya Lara, Kiko 292, and OPI Catch Me In Your Net! I never get tired of bright nails like these...take a looksie!

Can you feel the love? I sure can =]! I especially love the jelly-ish look of the CMIYN heart in the center; it seems like it goes on forever!

Have a great day!

Purple Reverse Gradient!

Hi!

Happy Wednesday, hope it's going well for you =]! I'm getting SO excited because I leave for Disneyland with Brandon tomorrow...it's our first Disneyland trip together and we're so thrilled to check out the park (and all it's new goodies...helloooooo Cars Land and Buena Vista Street!), hang out with my sister and brother-in-law, and just get away from this killer AZ heat! That being said, the next few day's posts will be scheduled since I won't be able to blog on the road. I'll still be in touch via Instagram (@neverlandnailblog) though, follow me for Disneyland updates all weekend =]!

Today, I have a lovely, simple, purple reverse gradient using Essie She's Picture Perfect and China Glaze Prism. I was really happy with how it turned out! I must say that the China Glaze Chroma Glitters make EXCELLENT gradients. Check it out!

Purple and sparkly, nothing wrong with that! She's Picture Perfect is quickly becoming a favorite purple of mine, I may have to grab myself a backup bottle!

Have a fabulous day =]

Lindsey

Summer Fun Challenge - Grill Master!

Hey there!

Today is the very first day of the Summer Fun Challenge =]! I've been so excited for this, it's going to be a blast!

For the very first theme, Grill Master, a ton of other ladies and I will be showing you our best grill inspired manis. Prepare to see food, grill marks, smoke, and more! My nails for this challenge were designed after a lovely day grilling outside! In Arizona, we don't get to do this often with nice weather...so I guess I'm living it vicariously through my nails =P I used Nubar Blue Hydrangea, SinfulColors Snow Me White, Dr.'s Remedy ESSENTIAL Emerald, Wet N Wild Black Creme, and Color Club What A Drag...take a look!

It shows off the rather cutesy side of grilling, no? I opted to leave out the messy charcoal this time, hope you don't mind =P! I also hope you enjoyed this first challenge post!

Have an awesome day!

Lindsey

Comic Book Action Bubble Nails + Tutorial!

Hey there!

I hope your Monday hasn't been too...Monday-ish =P Today, I have both a SUPER cute mani to show and a tutorial of how to do it! First, you simply MUST see this Comic Book Action Bubble mani! I got the idea the other day while talking with Brandon, the conversation went something like this...

Me: Look at this mani I just posted...what does it look like to you?

Brandon: It's cool! It looks sort of like...explosions.

Me: It's funny you say that, because several of my followers said the same thing! I didn't see that right away, but I guess I do now.

Brandon: Yeah, that's what I saw at first. They sort of look like action bubbles in comic books...you know?

Me: O_O Oh. My. Gosh. YES! My next mani and tutorial!

Needless to say, he was very proud for coming up with this one and he LOOOVED the outcome =] Check it out!

It's so fun and bright, I'm a big fan! Now, on to the tutorial so you can create this mani for yourself! The extra cool thing about this tutorial is it will double as instructions to create my Ruffled Edge mani that I shared last week. Are you ready? Here we goooo!

You'll Need:

Essentials (base/top coat, clean-up brush, cotton swabs, acetone)

Dotting Tool

Striping Brush

At least 2 polishes of your choice - the one that will be layered over the other should be opaque. If you'd like the look for be "skittles style" where each nail is different, you'll need more polishes. For my attempt, I used SinfulColors Snow Me White, Kiko 292, OPI Pink Flamenco, OPI Orge The Top Blue, and China Glaze Happy Go Lucky.

If you are creating the comic book action bubble version, you'll need a black polish to write with!

1. After applying a base coat, polish your nails with your base color.
This will be the "explosion" looking portion of the design, so I suggest using a lighter color. Allow to dry.

2. Use your dotting tool to place large, spread out dots of a brighter and darker color around the edge of your nail.
Some cuticle flooding might happen if you move to close to the skin, so be careful!

3. Fill in the gaps between the dots using a striping brush.
Also, round out any harsh corners that you may see.

If you are going for the Ruffled Edges look, clean up your cuticles, top coat it, and you're done! To create the comic book action bubble mani, continue...

4. Carefully freehand whatever expression you'd like each nail to have with a clean, dry striping brush.
I kept mine fairly simply, but you can do whatever words or symbols you'd like!

5. Clean up those cuticles! Here is a great tutorial if you don't already have a method.

6. Once the black polish is thoroughly dry (to prevent smearing), top coat your design. You're all done =]!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and mani today, please take pictures and show me on my Facebook page if you decide to try it yourself =]!

Have a great day!

Lindsey

Ruffle Mani!

Hello!

How's it going =]? Today was another crazy day for me, but it ended with a facial at an awesome spa...so I can't complain =P For today's post, I'm showing you guys my attempt of Chalkboard Nail's Ruffle Mani. It's a super easy-to-follow tutorial, so if you'd like to give it a whirl, check it out here! A shout-out goes to Miss Sarah; thanks for this tutorial and your amazing work =]! I used a ton of colors for this mani *deep breath* here we go...Zoya Kristen, OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It!, Zoya Tracie, Zoya Skylar, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Dr.'s Remedy NOBLE Navy, Zoya Meg, Nubar Blue Hydrangea, and Dr.'s Remedy ESSENTIAL Emerald. Take a look!

Totally cute =]! Sarah's original version of this absolutely beats mine, but it was really fun to give her technique a try.

Have an awesome day, talk to you soon!

It's So Easy Brush and Rhinestone Review!

Hey!

I'm sorry I missed posting this yesterday! I got caught up in painting both my mom's nails and my own =P Today, I have a cool review of some products courtesy of It's So Easy Nails. This is my second review for their products (last week I reviewed a bunch of their awesome Stripe Rite polish) and this time, I tried out the Double Up Brush and Rhinestone Box A (you can see these products on their website here). To test out these goodies, I created a mani using the brush, dotting tool, several types of rhinestones, and the rhinestone PICKerr UPerr that came with the kit. Take a look at my creation =]!

Colors used - Zoya Tracie, Dr.'s Remedy Essential Emerald, Zoya Meg, and China Glaze Happy Go Lucky

What do you think? I liked the idea, but my execution was a little shakey =P Now, you should know I don't normally use just ONE tool for my nail art unless the technique only requires one. For this review, I only let myself use the Double Up brush & dotting tool (for the freehand portion, like the grass and flower petals) so you could see what it was really like. I think this product is a great one for nail art beginners looking to create simple designs. The tool was very easy to use...my only problem with it was that it sort of broke when I took it out of the package =P! It's poor little neck made a clean break...but the brush/dotting tool still worked fine =P! I still think it was my fault for being to rough, but nonetheless, the effects this tool can create are really nice! It really IS so easy just like they say =P!

On the the rhinestones and PICKerr UPerr! I loved the variety in shape, size, and color in this kit! I had so much to choose from and I know it will take my quite a while to use all of these rhinestones. The PICKerr UPerr made my life so much easier for placing those itty bitty stones! It has rubberized tips that "grip" them so you can put them exactly where you want on your nail. I was a big fan of this kit, I recommend it highly!

You can find out where to purchase It's So Easy Nail products here!

Have an awesome day!

Lindsey

P.S. - Those of you participating in my Summer Fun Challenge...I have received a bunch of emails and I won't be able to respond to all of them until later this weekend. I'll be sending out a nice photo tutorial of how to use Inlinkz in your blog post...keep your eyes peeled and get those manis ready for next week =]!
